Geography

During Key Stage 2, we follow the National Curriculum, the children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world as well as their place in it. The geography curriculum at our school enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas.  We use Kapow as a resource, which provides the framework to ensure consistency in progression and coverage of all key areas but is adapted to ensure it is accessible and meaningful for all our pupils. The children will develop an awareness of how geography shapes all of our lives, along with a growing understanding of geographical concepts, terms and vocabulary. There is a focus on developing geographical skills and knowledge such as map and atlas work, human and physical features, as well as an opportunity develop fieldwork skills across each year group.

Geography is taught as a discrete subject to all students in Years 7, 8, and 9. The aim is that by the end of Key Stage 3, all pupils will have gained knowledge of the basic geographical concepts as well as understanding of the world in terms of both its physical and human geography.

Our Primary pupils split the academic year between History & Geography.

Class work is reinforced by field trips and other practical activities including a river study and a coastal investigation.
