PE
Intent
The intent of PE at Grange Park School is to ensure pupils access a broad and varied PE curriculum that is appropriate and differentiated, yet ambitious for every individual. Pupils will develop sporting skills, tactics and strategies as well as developing life skills such as teamwork, resilience, perseverance, independence and determination. Our aim is to give the pupils the knowledge and confidence to independently lead a physically active and healthy lifestyle both in school and beyond the PE curriculum.
Implementation
Throughout the Key Stages there is an even focus on the physical, socio-emotional and cognitive strands which creates a well-rounded, well-developed active individual. We encourage pupils to implement team work and leadership skills in all lessons, and we work hard on pupils’ resilience and tolerance, so they can overcome any barriers.
At Grange Park School the curriculum is designed to incorporate all areas of the Nations Curriculum with an even balance placed on each area. We offer a range of traditional sports such as basketball, football, cricket, dance and athletics as well as alternative activities such as kinball, table cricket, boccia, new age kurling, ultimate frisbee, parkour and trampolining. This mix of activities creates lessons where pupils have fun, are engaged and are motivated to learn. Pupils are also given ample opportunities throughout each Key Stage to develop analysis skills where they can comment on performances and make suggestions on ways to improve in order to develop their own and others performances.
In Key Stage 4 pupils can choose to study the BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Sport qualification which allows pupils to explore the sport sector by studying units of work such as ‘Coaching Skills in Sport,’ ‘Training for Fitness’ and ‘How Exercise Affects the Body.’ Pupils who choose this qualification as an option study it alongside their core PE lessons.
Impact
The impact of PE at Grange Park School can be seen by internal progress made in lessons and throughout the Key Stages. It can be seen in lessons where an atmosphere has been created so that pupils are engaged, try their best and are not afraid to make mistakes in order to make good progress and achieve their maximum potential. It can be seen in PE lunchtime clubs and fixtures where pupils are keen to participate in the extra curricula PE on offer. The impact can also be seen through the BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Sport qualification outcomes.
