Pathway 1: Post 16 @ Wrotham

Post 16 @ Wrotham is a vital step on the pathway towards the next steps of a students' journey into further learning, adulthood, independent living and employment. With a key focus on personal development as well as academic achievement, this pathway is a stepping stone to further progression.

The Curriculum

The intent of this pathway is to prepare the students' for their next steps in their learning journey. Based at the Wrotham site, this cohort of students study a broad and balanced curriculum that is linked to the preparing for adulthood pathways.

Work Placements

Our work experience placements provide opportunities for students to experience different types of employment and learn a range of employable skills. Present placements include: Mcdonalds, Holiday Inn, Trotiscliffe Community farm, Tesco Supermarket, School Kitchen, Grange Park Stansted Primary Provision and the College Carousel. The College Carousel is an opportunity for our students to explore a range of college courses over the year before transitioning to the Post 16@College pathway.

Our work experience placements change every year, based on the pupil’s interests and the career paths they would like to take. Previous placements included; Buttercups Goats Sanctuary, Holywell Care Home, Communigrow, Shears Green Primary School, Coop, Coronation Garage, The British red Cross Charity Shop, Oak Racing Kennels and Glanty IT consulting.

Preparing for Adulthood opportunities

As our students our preparing for adulthood, not only does our curriculum and qualifications support their next steps, we tailor our curriculum to work with individuals insuring all their needs are met and they develop and leave us more independent and knowledgeable of the wider world.

We achieve this in many different ways;

- Weekly the students walk down to the local shops independently or supported to buy their lunch.

- Over the year students take part in 3-4 trips using public transport locally and into London, they experience buying the tickets, helping to plan the trip, working out the route and what risks they may incur.

- Weekly our students visit the local leisure centre where they either spend time in the gym or swim lengths in the pool. This gives them the opportunity to exercise in the local community but also learn the range of equipment they can use and how it benefits them.

- A personalised curriculum to the students’ needs and interests- this is shown when our students are picking their work experience and what courses they complete throughout the year. This means that when they leave us at Post16@Wrotham, they are prepared, with their own choices, qualifications and confidence to make new choices.
